Become a Certified Heartsaver® Instructor with AHA

The Heartsaver® Instructor Essentials Course is your first step to becoming an American Heart Association (AHA) certified instructor. This self-paced, online course equips you with the necessary knowledge and skills to teach Heartsaver® classroom courses and oversee skills practice and testing for Heartsaver® eLearning programs. Once completed, you’ll receive a certificate of completion, which you’ll present at the in-person Heartsaver® Instructor Course.

Prerequisites for Enrollment

Before enrolling in the Heartsaver® Instructor Essentials Course, you must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a current completion card in either Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED or BLS for Healthcare Providers.
• Be aligned with an AHA BLS Training Center that accepts new Heartsaver® Instructor candidates.

Your Journey to Becoming a Heartsaver® Instructor

Completing the online HeartSaver CPR Instructor Course is just the beginning. To officially become a certified instructor, you’ll need to do the following:

• Attend the in-person Heartsaver® Instructor Course.
• Be monitored by Faculty while teaching your first course.

Once all steps are successfully completed, you’ll receive your official Heartsaver® Instructor card, valid for two years.

What You’ll Learn

The course is designed to prepare you for every aspect of being a Heartsaver® Instructor:

• Planning and preparing courses.
• Instructing classroom and eLearning courses.
• Administering exams, skills practice, and testing sessions.
• Maintaining your instructor certification.
• General teaching tips for AHA courses, with approximately 30 minutes of foundational information followed by Heartsaver®-specific content.
